Whiskers on Kittens and Community (favorite things…)
Every morning exactly 10 minutes before my alarm is set to ring, my sweet Elisa jumps on the bed and sits on me, my hip or my stomach depending on how I'm lying. She wants me to get up and put food in the (not all the way empty) bowl because apparently the cats might actually starve to death if they can see the bottom of the bowl (even if there is still plenty of kibbles in there).
Occurred to me this morning, as I was being held against my will, that she is causing me to do exactly the opposite of what she wants me to do. Her sweet furry self spurs no desire on my part to get out of the warm bed with a warm cat for a blanket. And yet, my thoughts start filling with the busyness and to-do lists for the day, so I have to push her off so I can roll out.
Makes me think about the passage in Romans where Paul says, "I decide to do good, but I don't really do it; I decide not to do bad, but then I do it anyway. My decisions, such as they are, don't result in actions." Of course, Paul has deep thoughts about Law and Grace and all that good stuff, but that passage comes to mind whenever I want to do what I know I should do, but then I simply do the opposite.
Anyway, I know what I need to do today and I have a plan for getting it done. But that doesn't mean that I won't find myself doing a hundred other things to get in my own way.
Is it just me? Does anyone else struggle with getting re-routed? I feel like maybe it's not just me…
